S1E19 – Phred’s Bar

Phred Kaufman is a long-time resident of Hokkaido and one of the most renowned foreign beer importers we know of. His bar in Susukino has a collection of over 5,000 beers on the walls and many amazing ones for you to taste. Phred does a lot of volunteer work as well including dressing up as Santa (you’ll understand why as soon as you see him!) and delivering gifts to children in the local orphanages at Christmas time.

In this midsummer update, Delaina & Shinya cover local happenings from ridiculously expensive drive-in firework festivals to camping at Lake Shikotsu. We feature some photos and videos from local tour guide Amanda Harlow and her visit to the brand new National Ainu Museum, Upopoy in Shiraoi. a local coffee shop called Kizuna Coffee and so much more. Also, for whatever reason, Delaina’s voice sounds like an anime character!

In this episode, we cover Shinya’s recent adventures in Tokyo including his new body ink and experiences with fast food not available in Hokkaido. Geraldine is also an avid cycler and shares with us about her travels from northern Japan to as far as the COVID virus would allow her to go before restrictions became too severe.
